What is The Hyphen Project?

The Hyphen Project is a Charitable Trust that runs an innovative new learning and vocational institute for talented neurodivergent teens. It offers a 6 month, fulltime, face-to-face talent incubator for 16-19 year old teens who have not got on well with mainstream education. We bridge these learners into further study or the workplace.

Michael Johnston from the New Zealand Initiative conducted an interview with Holly Gooch and Izzy Bremner, who explained what the Hyphen Project is about and outlined some of the challenges neurodivergent teens may face into mainstream education

Who are we here for?

The Hyphen Project champions stargazers, trailblazers and kiwis that think outside the box. These people are known as twice-exceptional (or 2e for short), which means they are super smart or creative yet are living with the disabling effects of ADHD, dyslexia or being autistic. Some might use the term neurodivergent or Māori terms like takiwātanga or aroreretini.

Whatever the terminology, these kiwis have awesome gifts! Sometimes others might overlook their talents, but at The Hyphen Project we celebrate them and help them grow them further.

What is our mission ?

Our mission is to provide a talent incubator that will equip the next generation of brilliant neurodivergent teens with the connections, confidence, and concrete evidence of talents that they need to pursue careers in their area of passion. Our talent incubator will be accessible to all that need it, not just those with luck and privilege.
